The Relationship between Treatment Response in Patients with Acute Psychotic Episodes of Schizophrenia and the Activity of Their Platelet Enzymes

Background: imbalance in the energy processes, such as oxidative phosphorylation intensity, and antioxidant systems, impaired glutamate metabolism brain are important biochemical pathogenetic links development of schizophrenia. Changes activity a number platelet enzymes involved these pathways were found patients with Aim: to assess relationship between treatment effciency acute psychotic episode paranoid schizophrenia levels (cytochrome c-oxidase, COX), glutathione system (glutathione reductase, GR), (glutamate dehydrogenase, GDH). Patients methods : we examined hospitalized adult diagnosis schizophrenia, episodic course, exacerbation disease (F20.01), receiving antipsychotic therapy, healthy volunteers control group for assessment ranges enzymatic activities. Psychometric was carried out using Positive Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS). Treatment response assessed good reduction PANSS scores 20% or more. The evaluation performed on first days after hospitalization immediately before discharge. Results 113 subjects recruited. 50 formed 63 patients, including 60 men 3 women made up study group. All indicators obtained all members 42 patients. In response, baseline COX, GDH GR activities proved be significantly more often met within range, half increased course. insuffcient had an increase treatment. Of indices, parameter most associated therapeutic activity. Conclusion can considered possible candidate predicting therapy.
